Intermittent fasting has made its way into becoming a popular diet to follow. Not only is it a diet, but it’s a good way to discipline yourself into choosing better options to fuel the body during the eating period.

As you try to start a diet plan; it can be challegning to start your journey. A lot of people have a misconception that eating less is the best, but it depends on what you are eating and how your body works. It’s important to keep in mind that everyone’s body responds differently to different diets and workout routines.

What is Intermittent Fasting

Intermittent Fasting is an eating plan that switches between fasting and eating on a regular schedule. There’s research that shows that fasting for a certain amount of time a day may have health benefits. There are 2 periods of intermittent fasting: fasting and eating. While you are in the fasting period, it’s important to stay hydrated with water and zero calorie drinks like plain coffee or tea. When starting the eating period, it’s important to control what and how much you consume. Getting the correct amount of clean nutrients is parallel with increasing an individual’s chances of having a healthier life. 

When starting intermittent fasting, it is crucial for individuals who might want to start to consult with their doctors before starting. There can be issues with fasting for too long (16-18 hours), resulting in a higher risk of gallstones and surgery in the future. It’s reccommended from professionals that the longest time of fasting that is healthy and beneficial was 12 hours. This on and off cycle is common for people who have a longer life span. 

There has been studies of health improvement such as:

  • May enhance heart health 
  • Boost function and prevent neurodegenerative disorders 
  • Helps with weight loss and boost metabolism  

Benifits of Fueling the Body

Finally, it’s important to know how to fuel the body as you follow this diet. Fueling the body is one of the many steps people forget because they believe that if you eat less, you will lose weight. This is not the case. By providing the body with the right nutrients with the appropriate amounts, you will meet your body’s specific needs. Fasting is one of the powerful approaches to optimizing how the bodies utilize fuel, primarily through a process called metabolic switchings, where the body shifts from burning glucose to fat for energy. The practice triggers beneficial hormonal changes that improves metabolic flexibility, leading to more efficient energy production and better nutrient absorption.

Intergrating intermittent fasting and fueling the body with the proper nutrients can increase the bodies energy in a more benitical way when done properly and lead to life long health improverments overall.
